Midlands-based truck dealer Hartshorne has clinched an order to
supply eight Volvo trucks to one of Europe's leading egg producers.
Hartshorne has delivered eight Volvo FH 4x2 tractor units to
Shropshire-based Oaklands Farm Eggs Ltd.
The vehicles join Oaklands' fleet, of which all but three are
Volvos supplied by Hartshorne, and will be used to deliver eggs
from the Oaklands sites in Shropshire to customers nationwide,
including major supermarket chains.
Oaklands Farm Eggs is a second generation family run company and
has been in business for more than 60 years. The company believes
in sourcing local companies to work with them. Oaklands employs 100
people locally and recently won the coveted Poultry Farmer of the
Year award for health and hen welfare for their new colonisation
system. They also won the judges' award from Heart of England Fine
Foods for innovation, growth and excellence.
The new vehicles have 460 horsepower Euro 5 engines. The trucks
are fitted with Volvo's fully automatic l-shift gearbox with long
haul, fuel and economy software. The units have the latest
Globetrotter XL cabs with single-bed living facilities. They have
been supplied by Hartshorne's Shrewsbury depot.
Hartshorne's Tony Churm said, "Oaklands has been a valued
customer of ours for many years and we have an excellent
relationship. The trucks we supply are used to deliver eggs all
over the country on a 24 hours-a-day basis, so reliability, economy
and first class service are absolute priorities."
Hartshorne, with its headquarters in Walsall, is the Volvo
Trucks agent for the Midlands, with 17 depots across central
England. The company is part of the Crossroads group.
