Whitchurch-based Grocontinental has been shortlisted for three
major awards in the 25th Motor Transport Awards - the road
transport industry's 'Oscars'.
The motor industry's flagship annual awards, to be held next
month at The Grosvenor Hotel, London, celebrate the achievements of
the industry and recognise innovation, outstanding service,
efficiency and quality. They are judged by an independent panel of
experts drawn from the industry.
Grocontinental has been shortlisted in three categories:
· Haulier of the Year - the
most coveted industry award of the year to recognise the most
outstanding road transport company.
· Fleet Driver of the Year
- Paul Crowther of Tilstock, who last year celebrated 40
years behind-the-wheel for Grocontinental, has been shortlisted for
the award that judges driving exellence in safety, fuel efficiency,
customer care and mechanical sympathy.
· Livery of the Year - the
company's recently launched livery scheme designed to link the
company closer to its core customer base, the food industry,
is up for the award for the most stylish livery unveiled over the
last year. The scheme was designed by Nick Edwards, owner of
design agency, West One Graphics based in Newport.
Grocontinental has enjoyed the most successful and progressive
twelve months in its history. With turnover in the last 12 months
increasing by almost £3 million, the largest-ever
year-on-year increase, the company attributes its success to an
ambitious growth strategy, sound and timely investment and
maintaining long-standing and flexible relationships with
customers.
Commenting on the news of the being shortlisted for the three
awards, Grocontinental Chairman Ray Grocott said:
'To be shortlisted for three key industry awards in our 70th
anniversary year, including the top award of Haulier of the Year,
is very special. We are very proud of our achievement and we
are particularly thrilled that Paul Crowther, who has been a driver
with us for over 40 years and who has demonstrated first-class
loyalty and service, has been shortlisted for the Fleet Driver of
the Year award.
'We are all really looking forward to the big night in London
next month.'
The event will be held on Wednesday 6th July and will be
attended by more than 1,400 guests.
Grocontinental was previously crowned Haulier of the Year in
2004.
