A charity golf day organised by the Rotary Club of Sutton
Coldfield has raised a record breaking £4,750 for local
causes.
The event, which was sponsored by Birmingham based Cookes
Furniture Limited, took place at Sutton Coldfield Golf Club on 12th
May.
On the day 18 teams took part in the golf competition, including
a team called Aston Villa Former Players, which included legendary
star Steve Staunton. The winning team was local accountancy firm
Dains, whose team captain was Spencer Wright.
Nearly 100 people attended the evening dinner, where a raffle
and an auction were held, helping to raise money towards the final
total.
The star prize was a Four-ball at the Belfrey's Brabazon Course,
which included two hours coaching by golf professional Derek
Simpson - This raised £400.
Paul Spooner, spokesman for the Rotary Club of Sutton Coldfield,
said: "It really was a fantastic day, £4,750 is a terrific
amount. I would like to say a big thank you to all those companies
who donated prizes and who took part on the day."
"A special thank you must also go to Cookes Furniture. Without
their sponsorship an event such as this would simply not be
possible. Their sponsorship ensures charities benefit from this
event, which is the largest in the Rotary Club of Sutton Coldfield
calendar," added Paul.
The amount raised by the 6th Annual Golf Day broke all previous
Rotary Club fundraising records. The money will be donated to a
number of local charities over the next 12 months.
