West Midlands 16-year-olds are being given the chance to make
this summer one to remember by taking part in the new community
empowerment programme, The National Citizenship Service (NCS).
Teenagers are being invited to invest in their personal
development, make a difference to the community, improve their job
and education prospects and, above all, have fun.
The Catch22 NCS partnership is offering 16 year olds from
different backgrounds across Walsall, Wednesbury, Rugby and
throughout Warwickshire the chance to get involved in the exciting
initiative.
Young people taking part will be offered a wide range of
opportunities and experiences including sport, drama, media,
outdoor education and environmental projects. One thing is certain,
they will have a summer to remember, say the organisers.
They will have the opportunity to attend a free week-long
residential scheme at an exciting outdoor pursuits centre, getting
involved with activities like climbing and abseiling, camping and
expeditions, mountain and gorge walking and mine exploration.
The aim is to form participants into a strong team ready to have
a positive impact on the areas they live in.
Steve Binns, of Pertemps Coachright - part of employment and
training experts Pertemps People Development Group - is project
leader of Catch22's NCS Partnership.
He said: "This is a great opportunity for young people to show
the valuable contribution they can make to areas including Walsall,
Wednesbury, Rugby and Warwickshire. It's an exciting, challenging
and safe way for them to spend some of their summer. Another
important aspect of NCS is that it could develop the qualities
valued by employers and educational institutions."
Catch22 NCS Partnership is one of twelve pilot providers of NCS.
It will take place throughout August and include two residential
phases. If you would like to get involved please call Steve Binns
