With looming cuts threatening legal aid and access to justice
for vulnerable people, a team of local family lawyers have assured
that their publically funded work continues to be available.
Coventry and Warwickshire-based Alsters Kelley LLP remains
active in its support for the Law Society's 'Sound Off For Justice'
campaign, and lobbied local MPs as early as June 2010 about the
potential consequences of cutting certain areas of legal aid.
Lawyers from the firm also attended a recent march protesting
against cuts to Legal Aid with local Coventry MPs.
"Our firm is entrenched in the heart of local communities in
Leamington Spa, Nuneaton and Coventry," says Jackie Cheung, family
solicitor specialising in Legal Aid cases at Alsters Kelley
LLP.
"We are depended on by many vulnerable people to deliver a range
of publically funded work, which, for them, is seen as a lifeline
to access to justice."
Erica Kemp, Head of Family Law at Alsters Kelley, added: "We are
one of few firms in Coventry and Warwickshire still providing Legal
Aid for a range of family matters.
"We want all to know that despite the threat of cuts, we are
still dedicated to providing an exceptional service should
people choose to come to us for publically funded family
work".
