A leading UK firm has adapted TV's Crystal Maze programme to put
on a unique month long safety event for its staff with the help of
a Shropshire firm.
The TTC Group has supplied quiz questions and film footage of
road hazards for Lafarge Plasterboard for use in the event which
runs throughout June 2011 and which involves 400 staff across the
UK and Ireland.
Staff must answer tricky questions to move into different zones
based on the popular Channel 4 Crystal Maze game show - which
Lafarge renamed Gypsum Maze after the material used to create
plasterboard.
"We have created four zones of home, office, factory and road
with physical and mental safety related games for each subject,"
said Karen Barksby, Business Unit Health & Safety Manager at
Lafarge.
Contestants have to win challenges to collect a crystal before
they move onto the next zone just as in the popular programme which
was the most watched show on Channel 4 in the 1990's.
All employees including the MD, sales, customer services,
engineers, production staff, contractors and administration take
part in the event. A leaderboard has been set up as employees
compete from the head office, two manufacturing plants and two
distribution outlets at Bristol, Ferrybridge, Grangemouth and
Dublin.
The TTC Group, which runs specialist driver training courses,
has provided questions on speed limits, road signs, road hazards,
trailer towing and spot the difference, with competitors winning a
new copy of the highway code and voucher prizes.
"The event has got off to a great start. Our thanks go to the
TTC Group for supplying us with all the information on road safety.
Early feedback from the teams is that it has been good fun and
really useful to get each team talking about road safety and all
the other safety issues," said Karen.
TTC's Alan Prosser said: "We work with companies to improve road
safety for their employees so we are always more than happy to help
any firm such as who have initiated this well devised safety
training event."
