A fun-filled family day is set to be held at a city leisure centre with visits from some high profile guests.

Coventry Sports Foundation is set to host its popular annual Summer Fete at the Xcel Leisure Centre in Canley on Sunday, June 12 and among those in attendance will be children's television stars Fireman Sam, Iggle Piggle and Upsy Daisy.

The event has been organised by Coventry Sports Foundation in partnership with the Rotary Club of Coventry Jubilee and will raise money for Help for Heroes and the children's cancer ward at the University Hospital, in Coventry.

As well as the chance to meet Fireman Sam, Iggle Piggle and Upsy Daisy, visitors can take advantage of a wide range of activities on the day including craft shows, horse riding, bouncy castles and go-karts.

Mark Cooke, events and hospitality manager for Coventry Sports Foundation, said: "Our Summer Fete has always proved extremely popular and a huge hit with adults and children of all ages.

"Yet again this year, we have a huge variety of entertainment and activities available and we would urge as many people as possible to come along and enjoy the atmosphere.

"It really is a great value day out and we are sure everyone who attends will thoroughly enjoy themselves!"

Face painting, refreshments and giant hamster balls will also form part of what promises to be an exciting event for all of the family.

A raffle will also be held on the day with prizes, including I-pod Shuffles, Lifestyles Health and Fitness membership for two, a signed CCFC football and a family carvery meal for four. Raffle tickets are priced at 50p and are available from the centre's reception.

The fete will begin at 11am and run until 4pm. Visitors are able to pay on the day with entry priced at just £1 for adults and free for under-12s. For more information please contact Mark Cooke 02476 856956.
