A Birmingham solicitor received royal recognition for her
work with victims of hearing loss, when she was recently invited to
attend a very special double birthday party at Buckingham
Palace.
Louise Scott, a workplace injury solicitor with law firm Irwin
Mitchell, who specialises in industrial hearing loss, was amongst
150 specially invited guests who attended the 100th birthday party
of national charity, Action on Hearing Loss, (formally the Royal
National Institute for Deaf People, RNID.)
The event was hosted by the charity's Patron, HRH the Duke of
Edinburgh and was particularly special as it coincided with the
Duke's 90th birthday.
Louise Scott who is based at the Birmingham office of Irwin
Mitchell Solicitors and attended the event with colleague Danielle
Shennan, commented: "It was the most memorable day of my life and
one I will never forget. We had originally been told that the party
would be held in the gardens of Buckingham Palace but, having seen
the weather reports, apparently the Duke himself ordered the party
to be moved inside.
"Being able to view the interior of such a historic Palace with
its many antiques and paintings was an incredible opportunity.
"We were even able to exchange a few words with the Duke who was
utterly charming and when he was later presented with a gift of a
pair of ear defenders by the charity, he jokingly asked if he would
be able to pick up Radio 3 on them!"
Other guests at the event included former Tory MP Ann Widdecombe
and supporters from Action on Hearing Loss who had all gathered to
mark 100 years of the charity's campaigning work, as well as to
celebrate the 90th birthday of the Duke of Edinburgh who has been
Patron since 1958.
Action on Hearing Loss is a national charity which offers
practical help and support to people with hearing loss, deafness
and tinnitus. The charity not only campaigns to raise awareness of
issues relating to hearing loss but also funds equipment and
ongoing medical and technological research into hearing
loss.
Louise Scott volunteers as a fundraiser for the charity in the
Midlands region and was recently presented with a regional award
for 'Delivering Results' for Action on Hearing Loss.
Looking to the future, Louise and her team at Irwin Mitchell in
Birmingham are already planning further events to help the charity,
including landscaping a garden at Lysways House in Walsall later
this month to enhance the lives of deaf and deafblind residents.
She is also working with Action on Hearing Loss on its latest
campaign which aims to raise public awareness about hearing loss
issues as well as encouraging GPs to refer people for hearing tests
earlier."
