Arts Council funding has been awarded to Aedas, allowing it to
extend the future of its region-wide arts initiative, 'Aedas
Presents'.
'Aedas Presents' is an innovative long term programme created by
the award winning architectural practice in partnership with
locally based independent curator Charlie Levine. Its aim is
to showcase the work of emerging artists, students and graduates
from local universities and colleges.
Marcus Wilkins, Aedas director for the Birmingham office said:
"The decision by the Arts Council to award us this funding of just
over £7k is a great boost not only to our arts programme but
also to the creative sector working in the region.
We have planned a busy events programme scheduled for the whole
of 2012. We are now in a position to invite proposals for 2013 from
local emerging artists and looking to access an unrivalled audience
of key members of the Birmingham community, including MP's, heads
of global corporations, University directors and representatives
from the arts arena.
"Since the launch of Aedas Presents in December (2010), we have
welcomed more than 2,000 guests to seven exhibitions at our Colmore
Plaza offices and have been overwhelmed by the positive interest
and support of what we are doing."
The next exhibition in the series is set to be unveiled on
Thursday 14th July at a drinks reception at Colmore Plaza. Matthew
Andrew will be exploring people's preconceptions of what a
reference photograph should be and how much information is conveyed
to the viewer using visual mediums at the preview. Matthew will be
at the preview show and will offer insight into his work.
Birmingham firms are starting to see the value of the initiative
and are ensuring its success by signing up as corporate sponsors,
which will also help to extend the life of the programme
further.
Local property and construction firm Rider Levett Bucknall has
signed up to sponsor three of the exhibitions and negotiation are
currently in place with other Birmingham based firms working in the
property related marketplace.
