A Worcester-based solicitor is swapping his business suit for
hiking gear later this month as he takes on a 40-mile trek across
Romania's Cindrel Mountains to raise much-needed funds for the
country's 80,000 orphans.
Graeme Berry, an Assistant Solicitor at legal firm MFG
Solicitors, is planning to raise £2,000 for the charity 'Love
Light Romania' - an organisation established to improve the lives
of HIV-infected orphans in the Romanian region of
Transylvania.
Along with two fellow trekkers, Graeme will begin his three-day
adventure on 26th May in the mountain city of Medias. He will face
a six-hour trek each day over some of Europe's harshest mountain
ranges.
Graeme, 25, who specialises in planning and agricultural law,
said: "The plight of Romanian orphans and the horrendous problems
they face has been well documented over the years. The Love Light
Romania charity has been doing a remarkable job bringing relief to
deprived children across Transylvania and I'm delighted to be doing
my bit.
"Romania has the highest number of orphaned children in the
whole of Europe and a little money goes a long way in Transylvania.
Only £40 is enough to sponsor a child's schooling for one
month, whilst £10 would give the average family enough
toiletries to last several weeks."
Graeme, who is running around 20 miles every week to prepare for
the gruelling trek added: "We have had some tremendous sponsorship
and are well on course to reach our £2,000 target. We can't
wait to get started and not only raise money and awareness for a
worthy cause, but see for ourselves how the money raised will help.
What we're doing is nothing in comparison to the everyday problems
these children face."
