Local food loving comedian, actor and musician Ade Edmondson
sampled some of the Peak District and Derbyshire's most famous
delicacies when he visited the area to film a programme for a
forthcoming television series.
Ade (54) - currently recording 'Ade in Britain', due to be
screened by ITV1 later this year - joined the 'Bakewell Pudding
versus Bakewell Tart' debate when he visited the town to sample its
best-known pastry confections.
Famous for his appearances in such TV shows as The Young Ones,
Holby City and more recently The Dales, Ade learned how to make a
traditional Bakewell Pudding at The Old Original Bakewell Pudding
Shop in The Square, before trying out a Bakewell Tart and other
specialities at The Bakewell Tart Shop and Coffee House, Matlock
Street.
The Ade in Britain film crew also captured the colourful hustle
and bustle of Bakewell's traditional Monday stall market and
livestock auctions at the Agricultural Business Centre during a
flying visit to the town before driving on to Eyam, where Ade
learned the finer points of well dressing with pupils and teachers
at the village primary school.
While in the area, he also met prize-winning butcher John
Mettrick in Glossop and expert dry stone waller Trevor Wragg of
Hartington.
During the series, Ade will travel from county to county on a
grand culinary tour taking in traditional foods, iconic buildings,
beautiful landscapes, wonderful wildlife and heart-warming
characters in a celebration of what makes Britain so uniquely
British.
"Film and television crews are always welcome in the Peak
District and Derbyshire, as they help to generate wider interest in
local life and local businesses, giving the area a higher profile
and hopefully bringing in more staying visitors to boost the
economy," said David Thornton, Head of Marketing and Deputy Chief
Executive of Visit Peak District & Derbyshire, the official
tourist board.
"I'm sure Ade found plenty of food for thought on his travels
here, and we look forward to seeing his unique take on our local
specialities and customs when Ade in Britain is screened later this
year."
So did Ade prefer the taste of Bakewell Pudding or Bakewell
Tart? All will be revealed to viewers who tune in to ITV1 to see
the 20-part daytime series!
