Pictured above: Miracle accepts his award from Lord
Snowdon
A partially sighted student from Coventry University has
travelled to the House of Commons to receive an award for
excellence from Lord Snowdon.
Nigerian-born Miracle Maduforo applied to the Snowdon Award
Scheme - a charity that provides grants to students with physical
or sensory disabilities - to help buy electronic Braille displaying
equipment.
Miracle was given the equipment on the provision that he worked
hard and had a good attendance record.
Dr Gideon Maas, Director at the Institute of Applied
Entrepreneurship at Coventry University, said he had achieved even
more than that.
He said: "Miracle more than deserves this award in recognition
of his hard work. Probably uniquely, he has achieved 100%
attendance during the three years of his degree, which is a
fantastic achievement in itself.
"He is a remarkable young man and is on course to get excellent
degree results and we're all really proud of him."
Miracle said he was grateful for the help and support he has
received during his studies at Coventry University.
He said: "I am really glad that I was able to buy this equipment
because it has given me a comfortable approach to reading and
engaging with a wide range of study material.
"My grades are excellent and I'm expecting a good degree. Once
I've finished my course I'm aiming to start an online business
trading African art.
"I really enjoyed going to London to meet Lord Snowdon and I
feel proud of what I have achieved."
As well as setting up his online business, Miracle's ambition is
to one day enter Nigerian politics.
