British athletics hero Roger Black MBE will be in Worcester next
month to help local businesses raise funds for the county's
disadvantaged children.
The 'Late Lunch with Roger' event, being held on Friday 17th
June at Sixways Stadium, will be hosted by Wooden Spoon, British
and Irish rugby's charity for underprivileged children. The
all-ticket event, backed by Worcester law firm MFG Solicitors,
begins at 1pm.
John Gibson, Regional Chairman of Wooden Spoon said: "All the
funds raised through this event will stay in Worcestershire to help
support projects for the county's disadvantaged children. We are
over the moon to have Roger Black as our guest speaker. Not only is
Roger an Olympian, but he's an inspirational figure who will help
make this an unforgettable event. Wooden Spoon relies on the
support of so many across Worcestershire and we are grateful to MFG
Solicitors for once again coming onboard as sponsors."
Guy Marson, Marketing Director at the event organisers, Modus
Creative, added: "It's great news to have such a well-decorated
British athlete supporting children here in Worcestershire. Wooden
Spoon do a tremendous amount of work to raise funds and this event
follows our successful 2009 business breakfast with former England
prop, Jason Leonard. We hope as many businesses as possible get
involved in what promises to be a memorable afternoon."
Black, 45, represented British athletics at the highest level
for fourteen years and won fifteen major Championship Gold medals
including a 400 metre Silver medal at the 1996 Olympic Games in
Atlanta, USA. Now retired from the sport, the Portsmouth-born
runner is now a television presenter and supporter of charitable
work. He was awarded an MBE in 1992 for his services to British
sport.
Individual tickets are priced at £45 or £450 for a
table of ten. Attendees will be treated to a keynote speech from
Roger Black, charity auction and a three-course meal in the
Stadium's Duckworth Suite. Those interested in buying tickets or
booking a table should contact Laura Bader on 01905 459351.
