Office merger broadens client offering

Leading chartered surveyors group Berrys has amalgamated its two offices at Towcester and Northampton to improve services to clients and extend product offering.

Staff from both offices will now work from the Northampton premises at York Road and will continue to offer commercial and residential valuations and surveys, commercial agency and specialist charities property work.  Berrys' office at Kettering continues unchanged as do the offices in Shropshire and Cheshire.

The Northampton office will be headed by Duncan Scott, a member of Berrys' management board, who joined the firm in December 2009 with the acquisition of the Towcester-based  survey and valuation practice C & S Surveyors LLP which he ran with Jonathan Carpenter.

"We wanted to consolidate the two offices and it made sense to base ourselves in the centre of the county in the county town at least for the  present time with the possibility of moving to other premises if necessary in the future," said Duncan.

Duncan Scott is no stranger to Berrys having trained as a chartered surveyor with the firm in the 1970s before starting his own surveying business and spending a few years as an airline pilot. He has now come full circle and will offer traditional valuation and property services as well as overseeing a specialist charities department advising many of the UK's leading charities.

The York Road office has been under the Berrys banner since 2008 when the firm acquired the commercial property and valuation business Richard Conn & Co to broaden its offering from a predominately agriculture and rural client base.

Andrew Tompson, an associate of Berrys who joined in 2008 with Richard Conn & Co, will continue to operate from Northampton, specialising in commercial property and valuations.

He will be joined by fellow associate partner Jonathan Carpenter, who is the residential property expert dealing with valuations and surveys and housing association work.

Richard Conn and Tony Gray, both well known and experienced chartered surveyors, are being retained as consultants to assist as and when required

There will be two full time clerical staff, Penny Evans and Jenny Coleman, with Maggie Scott continuing as the charities administrator and Alex Riley as part time secretary.

"This is an exciting development for Berrys enabling us to share our resources and knowledge so we can improve and develop services to a growing client base," Duncan explained.

"We are also actively seeking an agency specialist to take control of our commercial agency department at Northampton and look forward to hearing from suitable applicants, with relevant experience, who want to join our expanding team," he added.
