Leicester City Council has appointed Octavian Security as the
new provider of security and professional customer care services at
its park and ride sites across the city.
The security firm will now carry out a range of duties at the
Council's existing sites at Enderby and Meynell's Gorse, as well as
the new site at Birstall.
As part of the contract, Octavian will monitor and operate CCTV
systems, lock and unlock the sites, carry out regular patrols and
liaise with the Police and other emergency services. The company
will also be tasked with assisting the public and dealing with
general enquiries, maintaining the cleanliness of each site and
carrying out a range of other duties, including the gritting of the
car parks during adverse weather.
Commenting on the new contract, Octavian's commercial director
Tony Mellor said:
"Leicester City Council was particularly impressed with our
competitive pricing and successful track record when it comes to
car park security.
"We have worked at sites across the country, for the likes of
IKEA, a number of NHS Trusts, McArthur Glen Designer Outlets and
the Gloucestershire Quays Designer Outlet.
"Our aim is always to provide a safe and efficient service for
the public, working to reduce the fear of crime and anti-social
behaviour."
Octavian Security hit the headlines in 2006 by dramatically
reducing car crime at Giltbrook Retail Park in Nottinghamshire by
employing a team of former Gurkhas to patrol the car park.
This is also a very personal contract for Octavian, as Leicester
is the childhood home of Octavian's owner and founder Sukhi Ghuman,
whose family live in Leicester.
