VIPs, potential customers and dignitaries experienced a
birds-eye view of Coseley in the Black Country as they gathered to
witness the topping out ceremony of the region's new extra care
scheme.
Over 70 people gathered at the Willowfields development just off
Whitehouse Street, where they were treated to a Victorian tea
whilst being given the chance to see first-hand how the scheme was
progressing.
To mark the occasion, a commemorative coin was unveiled on the
rooftop of the three storey building by the Mayor of Dudley,
Councillor Peter Miller, Carl Larter from Midland Heart and members
of the Willowfields founders group.
Whilst the event marked a significant milestone in the scheme's
development, it was also a celebration of the support it has
received from the Mayor of Dudley who stepped down last week.
Carl Larter, director for new business and development at
Midland Heart, said: "Willowfields is an exemplary affordable
housing scheme for the over 55s and we are delighted that so many
of our partners and potential customers have gathered to witness a
very important milestone in the scheme's development.
"The event also provides us with the opportunity to show our
appreciation to the Mayor of Dudley, who has been an active
supporter of both extra care schemes in the borough since their
inception."
The £multi-million extra care housing scheme is being
developed by the region's largest housing and care organisation,
Midland Heart, in partnership with Dudley Council, the Homes and
Communities Agency (HCA), which has invested £3.2m, and
regeneration specialists Frank Haslam Milan (FHM).
Once complete, it will provide 72 one and two-bedroom apartments
available for rent, part-buy or outright sale and will include
extensive communal facilities such as a restaurant, shop, craft and
activity suite as well as a well-being facility.
Councillor Peter Miller, the Mayor of Dudley, said:
"Willowfields epitomises the council's vision for the future of
housing for the over 55s and we are now one step closer to
delivering that vision.
"During the past 18 months, I have met with some extraordinary
people who have had the energy to drive both the Willowfields and
Broad Meadow development in Dudley forward and make both schemes a
success. I cannot wait for the opening ceremonies to see the
schemes come to life."
Willowfields is the second extra care scheme currently being
developed in the Black Country by Midland Heart and the HCA, with
Broad Meadow due to open its doors to residents in summer this
year.
