Chief Executive of The NEC Group, Paul Thandi, was honoured as Birmingham's Inspiring Leader 2011 at the Birmingham Young Professional of the Year (BYPY) annual event.

Awarded for his outstanding contribution towards mentoring the region's young people, Paul really was at home when he took to the stage to accept his award at The International Convention Centre (ICC).

"Being an inspiring leader is not something I can do with out those around me - having a great team behind me means everything," said Paul, and quite literally he had the team of ICC chefs on stage behind him, taking the opportunity to congratulate them on the fabulous meal they'd just delivered to more than 800 guests.

Paul was chosen by the Birmingham Future Board for his continuous contribution to the city's business community along with his vision for The NEC Group which has now extended into the wider community. He has gone on to maintain this positive influence through his positions on the boards of Marketing Birmingham, CBI West Midlands Council, Birmingham & Solihull Employment and Skills and Birmingham Prospectus Advisory Group as well as in his role as President of Solihull Chamber of Commerce.

"I have always been a firm believer in investing in our future - today's young professionals, will be the drivers of tomorrow and we must continue to support them. BYPY is a fantastic platform from which to do that, and I'm honoured to be recognised by such a great group of people, who will no doubt become inspiring leaders themselves." said Paul.

Bina Ganatra, BYPY Chairman said: "Paul is an extremely worthy winner of our Inspiring Leader award for 2011. His work at the NEC Group has driven the organisation forward while influencing young professionals within our community, a change that can be measured through its employees, colleagues and in business."

BYPY is a prestigious award ceremony that recognises and rewards talented individuals within Birmingham's business community for their commitment and dedication towards the success of the city. Thursday (May 19) night's event brought together some of the West Midlands' finest professionals from the communications, entrepreneurial, financial services, human resources, recruitment and training, legal and property and construction sectors.
