Midlands business executives are set to experience a taste of
what senior members of our armed forces face every day.
And they are going to have an opportunity to consider how
elements might be usefully translated into corporate life.
The event, "The Military Decision Making Process: Can it deliver
on Civvie Street"? is taking place on Friday, June 17, at The Lake,
Barston Conference Centre and Golf Club, Marsh House Farm Lane,
Solihull.
A partnership between the military and the Institute of
Directors in the West Midlands, it will focus on leadership and
offer guidance in how to perform under situations of extreme
stress.
The day will begin with a presentation by Brigadier Tim Radford,
who commanded 19 Light Brigade in Helmand Province. He will
give a senior officer's perspective on the application of the
military decision making process.
After further training and with mentor assistance delegates will
be given the opportunity to solve a military problem using their
new found skills. They will work in groups of 10 using the
golf club and surrounding area but the exercise will be cerebral
requiring nothing more physical than a short walk.
John Phillips, regional director of the IOD, said: "It will be
an all-day interactive professional development experience,
providing insight into the military decision-making process and
exploring some of the similarities with the business world.
We believe business can learn a lot from the Army and this event
certainly represents a once in a life time opportunity for
professional development."
The challenge takes place from 8.30am to 3.30pm and costs
£90 (£75 + VAT).
The event is open to non IoD members as long as they are
directors or senior managers.
There is a six for five offer if a board or senior management
team would like to enter as a group.
