An award winning landscape gardener based in Brocton in
Staffordshire has been appointed to be one of four judges for the
prestigious Worldskills UK competition by the British Association
of Landscape Industries (BALI).
Better known as TV's landscape expert on programmes such as
'Rogue Traders' and 'Watchdog', Mitch Westwood of Westwood
Solutions in Brocton will be judging the regional heats this week
at Malvern Spring Gardening Show 12-15th May, where students from
colleges and industry will be building identical 2x3m gardens
live.
Those scoring highest are invited to compete in the National
Final which will be held at Malvern Autumn Show 24-25th September,
where Mitch will also take part in the judging.
Angela Radley, who project manages the WorldSkills UK
Landscaping Competition on behalf of BALI, said "Mitch is a highly
experienced and well respected figure in the landscaping industry.
His specialist knowledge and expert advice was invaluable at
previous WorldSkills UK events and we are delighted to have him on
the team of judges again this year."
BALI run the WorldSkills UK Landscape Gardening Competition for
students who are working towards their qualifications in the
landscape industry. This competition, amongst approximately 50
others, is part of a set of skills competitions run throughout the
UK and internationally.
In addition to encouraging all competitors to learn and excel
within their trade, WorldSkills UK competitions may lead to an
opportunity to compete internationally at the next biannual
International competition "WorldSkills" held at ExCeL 5-8th October
2011 where there will be approximately 1200 competitors competing
from 50 countries around the World.
