A criminal law Associate Solicitor with Midlands law firm
Challinors, Jolyon Canlin, is one of five keen amateur cyclists
taking on one of Wales' most grueling long distance cycle routes
from Cardiff to Holyhead, with the target of raising £1500
for charities Help for Heroes and Cancer Research.
A Solicitor and Higher Courts Advocate in the Criminal Defence
department of Challinors, Jolyon with his friends and cycling
buddies Neil Griffiths, Graham Schultz, Simon Thwaite and Simon
Whittham, will take on the 250-mile Lon Las Cycle Route over five
days starting in Cardiff on the 28th May 2011.
The journey includes sections through the Brecon Beacons and
Snowdonia, before cycling through Carnarvon on day-four and the
final day's leg into Holyhead.
The ride is being tackled by the group 'unsupported', which
means they will each carry their own water, food, clothing and
supplies, rather than using a support team with vehicles.
"We expect to be on the bike by 9am each day," says Jolyon, "and
keep cycling for as long as we can, with short stops for snacks and
to replenish water supplies on route.
"I have been cycling with these friends for some time; in fact
we all enjoy pastimes that take in the outdoors including walking,
mountain biking, road cycling and running. I am also planning to
compete in my first triathlon in the summer.
"Training in the run-up to the Lon Las Cycle challenge will be
based on an average of 30 miles road cycling each day Monday to
Friday, with a minimum 50-mile cycle session on the weekends, as
well as some training in the gym."
He adds: "We have chosen to raise money for two charities. My
personal choice was Cancer Research UK due to my own experiences.
We are already well on the way to reaching our £1500
target, with immense support from friends and family, but would of
course welcome any additional financial support people are able to
give us."
