The 'Alsters Kelley Oar Stars' 17-man crew got more than they
bargained for at this year's Warwick Dragon Boat Race when
strong winds contributed to the capsizing of the
Chinese-style racing vessel in their first round race.
But all was not lost for the lawyers, who had an army of support
from family and friends at the riverbank, as they dried off
and raced again to record a time which still beat 4 other
teams.
The crew- who have now all dried out- raised nearly £1,750
for the baby hospice and it is still not too late to sponsor the
team at www.justgiving.com/Alsters-Kelley-LLP.
Neil Raiseborough, Partner at Alsters Kelley LLP and rower,
said: "We may have got a little wet, but we showed great
resilience and determination to carry on and great day was
had by all. This is our second Dragon Boat Race for Zoe's Place and
both years we have managed to raise staggering sums through the
dedication of our staff".
Helen Fairhurst, Fundraising Manager at Zoe's Place Baby
Hospice, Coventry, said: "This time last year, few people in
Coventry and Warwickshire had heard of Zoë's Place. By having
such a big presence at events such as the Dragon Boat Race, we're
really starting to establish ourselves as the local charity to
support, which is fantastic. Thank you Alsters Kelley Oar
Stars!"
