An experienced motorway maintenance and support services company
is continuing its innovative approach to expand its customer base
despite the recession.
Carnell Support Services Limited, which has offices across the
UK including in Penkridge, Staffordshire, has developed a new
camera system to improve the assessment and maintenance of the
drains on the nation's highways network.
The forward-thinking company, which has been customers of
Yorkshire Bank's Financial Solutions Centre (FSC) in Birmingham for
the last three years, provide specialist maintenance and support
services for the infrastructure and communication systems of the
UK's highways.
Darren Nelson, chief executive of Carnell Support Services, said
its SMARTview system completed the task of surveying the condition
of motorway drains three times faster and more cost effective than
traditional methods.
"Drainage systems need to be inspected regularly to identify any
problems," he said.
"We provide a digital assessment using a pole-mounted camera
with a telescopic zoom operated by a handheld unit and this avoids
the costly mobilisation of CCTV camera vans and the associated
roadworks.
"This means we are able to prioritise the required maintenance
activity and carry it out at night in a cost productive and
efficient way. There is less disruption for motorists and it also
improves the life-span of the road network."
Carnell Support Services, which was set up 18 years ago and has
around 300 people working for the company, has also developed the
STONEmaster method for renovating roadside filter drains.
Darren added: "Rather than taking tonnes of waste materials to
landfill, we recycle the filter drains on-site and reduce the
number of trips required to bring new material from the
quarries.
"This operation makes the drains more efficient and so improves
road safety and reduces the risk of accidents and flooding."
Nigel Wood, Business Banking Parter at Yorkshire Bank's FSC in
Temple Row, said this was an example of a regional business that
was continuing to grow in the economic recession.
"Carnell Support Services has demonstrated its ability to adapt
during these tough times in the construction industry but their
innovative approach allied with hard work has proved to be a
winning combination," he said.
"Darren and his team work with private and public operators in
their specialist field and are going from strength to strength.
"Yorkshire Bank is happy to continue its support through all our
services in all areas of Carnell's business."
