A team of leisure centre staff fox trotted their way to a
generous total after they raised around £2,000 for
charity.
Members of Coventry Sports Foundation arranged a special
ballroom dancing competition at the Xcel Leisure Centre in Canley
for the Teenage Cancer Trust.
An audience of around 250 people attended the event which saw 12
couples compete for the Strictly Come Dancing -style winner's
crown.
Coventry Sport's Foundation's swimming development officer Kayle
Burgham and 15-year-old Alfie Mottram topped the audience's vote
while the judges opted to share first place between dance
instructor Jade Falconer with partner Jon Oppenshaw and the
Foundation's community development manager Wendy Jackson with Ben
Venson.
The evening also included a two-course meal for guests as well
as a charity raffle.
The dancers had been rehearsing for more than six months and
Wendy Jackson said the evening had been a great success.
"We were delighted with the number of people who turned up to
show their support on the day and everyone seemed to really enjoy
themselves," she said.
"Everyone involved put a huge amount of time and effort into
their performances as well as the organisation and promotion of the
event so we were thrilled that everything went smoothly on the
night.
"We have managed to raise a fantastic amount of money for a
cause which is very close to the hearts of many of the people
involved and we would like to thank everyone who showed their
support."
