Leading law firm, Cobbetts LLP, has made up three directors in
its Birmingham office to partner, after 12 months in which the firm
expanded overseas and was recognised repeatedly for its focus on
innovation.
In Cobbetts' Colmore Square office, Ian Illersic in banking and
business restructuring, Dominic Prentis in corporate and Nigel
Gardner in technology, media, trade and infrastructure (TMTI) have
each been promoted to partner.
The accolades form part of a round of nine partner promotions
across three of the firm's UK offices, with a further two in Leeds
and four in Manchester.
The partner promotions follow a year in which Cobbetts has
received numerous accolades for its innovative approach to
delivering legal services. In November 2010, the firm was named
Legal Adviser of the Year for developing the legal structure to
deliver co-operative trust schools. In October, public services
partner, Kevin Jaquiss, was named Innovative Lawyer of the Year by
the Financial Times for his work in developing a workable legal
model through which community benefit societies can raise working
capital through share issues. And earlier in 2010, Cobbetts's
imaginative approach to billing was recognised when it topped the
Legal Week client satisfaction survey, which is widely recognised
as the UK's most respected client poll.
Michael Shaw, managing partner at Cobbetts, said: "Just as they
have for many other industries, the last couple of years have been
extremely challenging for the legal services market. The economic
environment has required individuals to challenge received wisdom
and to innovate in order to drive their firms forward.
"These promotions reflect the willingness of Ian, Dominic and
Nigel, as well as numerous others across the firm, to introduce new
approaches and ways of thinking for the benefit of our clients and
employees. While economic conditions remain changeable, it is in
large part thanks to their talent and dedication that we are now
seeing significant opportunities in areas of both existing strength
and of innovation."
