A schoolgirl from Lincoln has helped Branston Ltd to come up
with a design for a new lorry….and the potato people have
thanked her by unveiling the new creation at her school.
Ten year old Chloe Dearden, from Metheringham near Lincoln, came
up with the idea after Branston ran a competition asking local
children to help them come up with a fun and innovative new lorry
design.
The UK's leading potato supplier invited local children to draw
or describe their ideas and send them in, with the lucky winner
having theirs professionally designed and put on to a new Branston
lorry.
Chloe's design was chosen out of over 100 fantastic entries, and
earlier this week the lorry was driven to Branston Junior School,
where Chloe and her friends were able to rip off some massive
sheets of wrapping paper to see the new design in its full
glory.
The whole school was invited into the playground for the grand
unveiling, and lots of Chloe's friends helped out to reveal her
design.
Chloe, who used the recent come back of boy band Take That as
the inspiration for her design said: "I was so excited about seeing
my design on the lorry. I had already seen it on a computer screen
but couldn't believe it when I saw it on the side of such a huge
lorry. I couldn't sleep the night before, I was so excited!
"My friends are all really jealous that my design is on a lorry
driving around the country. I was also really pleased that my name
is on the back of the lorry to say I have designed it."
Over the last year, Branston has been livening up its liveries
and now has a fleet of 13 striking lorries which it uses to
transport potatoes around the country. The fleet features a range
of potato health messages along with all sorts of different takes
on popular TV shows. In fact there are no limits, if an idea could
be developed into an amusing livery then Branston will get it on
the road!
Branston's account director Jo Parish said: "It was fantastic to
see Chloe's reaction to the lorry, and made the whole competition
worthwhile. We launched our new livery designs over a year ago and
have had such a great response from the general public.
"The designs on our lorries were originally created to attract
the attention of a younger audience. The purpose of this
competition was to get our next generation of consumers loving
their spuds even more by designing their own livery. Chloe's design
is a real winner for us as it's not only fun, but will also appeal
to people of all ages."
