Inspirational speaker John Flanner will be encouraging
businesses to succeed by appreciating people in the workplace, when
he speaks at Dudley and District Business Club next week (May
17).
John, who lost his sight at 19 due to a rare hereditary
condition, works for HMRC, and won an Outstanding Achievement Award
at the Civil Service Equality & Diversity Awards.
He shows people how encouraging others can help, using lessons
from his experiences of overcoming being blind all his adult
life.
Training as an audio typist led to him finding his faith through
a teacher, and he learned the value of not taking life too
seriously. His story has lessons for business owners in challenging
times.
The talk reflects the Club's support for chosen charity, the
Stourbridge Resource Centre of the Pocklington Trust, which
supports people with sight loss. Trust Development Officer Anne
Evetts said that funds raised would go towards a sensory garden for
people at the Resource Centre to sit in summer, and grow vegetable
and flowers.
The Dudley and District Business club will be holding a charity
auction on 18 October and is looking for lot donations from
businesses, such as travel agencies.
There will be a hot supper at Tuesday's (May 17) meeting, at
Hagley Golf Club, Wassell Grove Lane, which starts at 7pm. New
businesses are welcome.
Club members help those starting out to gain from others'
experiences, on negotiating and closing deals on new business. The
Club, membership just £25 a year, meets the third Tuesday of
each month, for networking. Cost is £10 for first visitors:
