Celebrities and sports personalities will be out in force for a
special charity cricket day to be held in Birmingham in August.
The event, to be held at Bournville Cricket Club on Sunday,
August 7, will raise cash for disability cricket in the West
Midlands, the Army Benevolent Fund and the Royal British
Legion.
Highlight of the day will be a 40 over match between the England
National Physical Disability XI and the British Army Development
XI. Other attractions include a Kwik-Cricket demonstration by the
Warwickshire Disability Youth Squad, the England and Wales Cricket
Board Roadshow, a charity auction in front of the pavilion, and
coaching tips for youngsters.
England batting legend Mike Gatting will attend in his capacity
as ECB director of cricket partnerships, along with Warwickshire
hero and Trust Fund president Dennis Amiss, BBC Radio WM presenters
Ed Doolan and Adrian Goldberg, TV presenters Adrian Chiles, Nick
Owen and Kay Alexander and Warwickshire stars from the past.
Twenty20 quarter final commitments allowing, Warwickshire first
team members may also attend, including Ashes heroes Ian Bell and
Jonathan Trott.
The event is being organised by the Bill Lloyd Memorial Trust
Fund in conjunction with the British Association for Cricketers
with Disabilities, the Warwickshire Cricket Board and the ECB.
The Bill Lloyd Memorial Trust Fund was set up in memory of
Birmingham cricket enthusiast Bill Lloyd who died from cancer in
2007, aged 64. He began playing in the William Cowper Street School
team as a schoolboy and was still playing four weeks before his
death. The Fund aims to help cricket and cricketers at grass roots
level.
David Lloyd, secretary of the Trust Fund said it would be a
great day out for all the family.
"We want to raise the profile of disability cricket in
Birmingham and the West Midlands and also give local people the
opportunity to show their support to the people of the British Army
who risk their lives on a daily basis in the service of their
country," he said.
"The event will also raise much-needed finance for the causes
involved," he added.
Anyone wanting information about the day, or wishing to make
donations to the charity auction can contact David Lloyd on 07764
