Shropshire County Show visitors to travel in style

Visitors to this year's Shropshire County Show will be able to travel to the site in style whether it be by riverboat or by a good old fashioned red bus.

The vehicles will be on hand in Shrewsbury town on both days of the show to ensure the thousands of visitors get to the Berwick Road showground in plenty of time to enjoy the dozens of acts that will grace the main ring, the livestock competitions, trade stands, fair and much much more.

A double-decker red bus will be transporting passengers from Shrewsbury bus station to the ground and a single-decker red bus will be making its way to and from Shrewsbury train station.

The buses will go every 15 minutes according to demand with the double-decker making a diversion to avoid a low bridge on its return journeys.

And the Sabrina will once again be ferrying passengers from Victoria Quay to the ground.

A spokesman for Sabrina Tours Ltd, said: "We will run a shuttle service for the two days from 9am to 6pm. The trip takes approximately 15 minutes.

"We have a fully licensed bar with refreshments on board and we hold 60 passengers. The boat is completely refurbished and we have a retractable roof and sides so despite the weather should be a dry experience and a more refined way to get to the show ground."

Prices for the boat are £3 one way for adults and £5 return, £2 one way for children and £3 return and £8 for a family of two adults and two children one way and £13 return.

"Bookings are taken on 01743 369741 if people want to secure their seat, you can just turn up but bookings will get priority," added the spokesman.

Keith Brown, trustee and chair of the pig sections at the show, said the committee was pleased to have secured the red buses following substantial problems with traffic coming to the show in 2010.

He said: "Last year the transport was a problem so we decided to arrange extra transport this year and are also setting aside an area for cyclists to leave their bikes securely on site.

"The buses will be going around the town centre and bringing people to the showground throughout the weekend and the Sabrina river boat will be bringing people onto site via the river.

"We want to make things as easy as possible for our 2011 visitors and we are setting aside lots of space for the people driving to the ground as well."

The Berwick Road showground is accessed from the town centre via Ellesmere Road (the A528), onto Berwick Road (the B5067) and down Gravel Hill Lane on the left.

Pedestrians can cut through from Ellesmere Road to close to the ground by using the Pig Trough shut.
