Hundreds of school children across West Bridgford and Nottingham
are invited to become architects and builders - in a competition
being run by FHP Living.
The leading firm of estate agents, which has opened an office in
West Bridgford, has tasked primary age children with building a
home of their own - with anything from cereal boxes and margarine
tubs to tin foil or gingerbread!
FHP Living has invited a number of local schools to take part in
the Build a House Competition. Pupils are asked to design and build
a model home and return their models to school after the Easter
holidays when teachers will choose an overall winner from each
school.
FHP Living will display the winning models in its estate agency
office for all to see. The winner from each school will get a
family ticket for four to Alton Towers - and the overall design
will receive a cheque of £500 for their school to spend on
classroom equipment.
David Hargreaves, partner of FHP Living, came up with the idea
for the competition.
He said: "When I was just eight years old, I won a similar
competition to build a model house. In order to mark the opening of
our new West Bridgford office, I thought it would be fun to run
this competition locally.
"We are really looking forward to seeing what the pupils come up
with. They can use any materials they want to and design any sort
of house they like - from large detached properties with swimming
pools, to space age apartments with all mod cons.
"The pupils can really use their imagination to come up with
weird and wonderful designs - or they can design something more
traditional. The competition could even become the start of a
promising career in property.
The closing date for entries is the 13 May. The headteacher will
choose a winner on Friday 20 May. The winners' models will then be
displayed in the FHP Living office for two weeks. The overall
winner, who will receive £500 of school vouchers, will be
picked on 6 June.
