St. Modwen has received planning approval for a major
regeneration project that will breathe new life into a former
industrial site at Rumer Hill in the heart of Cannock.
Cannock Chase District Council has given the green light for a
development of 75 new homes on eight acres of land off Rumer Hill
Road. The site played a part in Staffordshire's coal mining past,
with the existing industrial/ office buildings associated with the
Mid Cannock Colliery. Over 40,000 sq ft of former Coal Board
buildings on the site will be demolished to make way for the new
development following the appointment of a residential
developer.
Mike Timmins, senior planning surveyor for St. Modwen, said:
"Our plans for Rumer Hill will see this area of Cannock transformed
into a sustainable new residential community. A total of 75 new
homes will provide a choice of quality properties for local buyers,
and the design and specification of the homes will set a new
benchmark for the town.
"We have been working closely with the businesses which occupy
the existing industrial/ office units on the site to assist them in
relocating before we undertake a programme of remediation to
prepare the site ahead of the construction of the new homes."
The land earmarked for development is located on Rumer Hill
Road, approximately half a mile from Cannock town centre, and
within walking distance of Cannock Railway Station. It is also
situated around half a mile from the Churchbridge junction of the
A5 and junction T7 of the M6 Toll Road.
