Construction services company Mansell is carrying out two
contracts worth £3.6m to build environmentally sustainable
houses in the Cotswolds.
Mansell's Stourbridge-based Western Region has been awarded a
contract to build 29 timber-framed homes in Philipscote, Evesham
and has built a further 12 in Broadway.
The contracts are being carried out for the Rooftop Housing
Group in partnership with the Homes and Communities Agency and
Wychavon District Council through Matrix Housing Partnership.
The work in Evesham involves the construction of seven houses,
10 bungalows for the elderly and 12 flats using timber-framed
construction. The homes use environmentally sound and sustainable
materials from managed sources.
The Broadway project involved 12 two-storey affordable homes on
part of a car park owned by Wychavon District Council. They are
clad in natural stone with timber windows and a Cotswold slate
roof.
The housing association organised VIP visits to the sites, which
included Paul Spooner, the Homes and Communities Agency regional
director for the North and West Midlands.
In addition to these two contracts, Mansell has agreed a half
million pound contract to build five new bungalows in Badsey near
Evesham for the Evesham and Pershore Housing Association.
Mansell Western Region manager of Partnership Housing, Simon
Liversage said the firm was delighted to have secured the
contracts.
"Our team takes environmental issues very seriously. We see it
as a major responsibility to work in a sustainable way that focuses
on communities, construction, stewardship, climate change and
resource efficiency, and that is ingrained into the Mansell
culture," he said.
