As part of its partnership with President Kennedy Community
School and College, employees from Fusion have run a series of
career workshops for pupils. Over 100 students attended the hour
long sessions, which offered advice on topics such as finding an
ideal career, CV writing and interview techniques.
The Coventry-based contact centre business has been working with
the Holbrook school for the last few months as part of is
commitment to supporting the local community. The three year
partnership will see the company support the school in a number of
ways - from providing reading support and business skills guidance,
to volunteering to help create an African concept garden.
Peter Thomas, Head Teacher at President Kennedy Community School
and College, commented: "Students have a number of options open to
them on completion of their GCSEs and having links with the local
business world really is invaluable in helping them to assess all
of their choices.
"For many of the pupils, this was their first chance to
understand what is required of them from the interview and
employment process and hearing this from a business first hand has
opened their eyes to the challenges they face when entering the
world of work. We are working very closely with the Fusion team and
following the success of the workshops, we are now planning more
throughout the year."
Andy Talbot, Site Manager at Fusion, added: "We were keen to
relate some of our advice to areas that the students would be
familiar with. For example, we used training for a football match
as an everyday scenario when discussing how much effort needs to be
put in when looking for employment. The person who gets the job is
the person who puts in the most effort, just like when you get
selected for a football squad. The CV writing skills were
particularly well received, with many of the students keen to get
started on building their own CV using the techniques
discussed."
