Educ8 signs deal with former pro-footballer

Leicester law firm Nelsons has advised Braunstone-based Educ8 Business Consultancy on an investment deal with former pro-footballer Neil Prince to open a LearnFit Academy in Liverpool.

In a move to expand their network of sports academies for youngsters, Jevon Payne and Tim Warner, the directors of Educ8, have invested in the formation of Prince's new enterprise Educ8 Liverpool Ltd.

The ex-Liverpool FC Reserves and Torquay United player will use the cash injection, which comes with mentoring and back-office support, to launch an academy using Educ8's unique LearnFit sports learning programme and brand.

Negotiations are underway with Bootle Football Club as Prince hopes to open the new LearnFit Academy at the club's Selston ground in September this year. Aimed at schoolchildren aged 14 to 19, it will work towards providing them with accredited qualifications as a route to further education, training or employment.

Commenting on the deal, Jevon Payne says: "We have a vision to see LearnFit Academies open in all major cities across the UK, so when Neil approached us with an interest in expanding his existing community-based sports coaching operation, it was perfect timing.

"Our research confirmed a need for an academy in the city to help young people struggling in mainstream education, and Neil shares our commitment to helping them to learn and achieve through the use of sports-based programmes. Our concept and business backing combined with his passion and profile within Liverpool, makes this signing a sure winner."

Rik Pancholi of Nelsons advised on structuring and completion of the deal. He says: "By identifying and helping individuals to set up small businesses in key locations, each with the potential for significant growth within their region, Jevon and Tim are successfully expanding their investment portfolio and brand reach at an exciting rate. This is the fourth deal we've advised the duo on this year and we're confident they will continue to drive forward, targeting city after city until all five of the Educ8 brands are household names."
