Pat McFadden, MP for Wolverhampton South East has met with Black
Country Chamber member The Deritend Group Limited to discuss
developing its business in Wolverhampton and to see some of the
first class engineering skills employed in the City.
Following a difficult few years in business due to the recession
Deritend's Finance Director Stuart Smith said that "Deritend is
experiencing a welcome upturn in work and is pleased to be
welcoming new orders into Wolverhampton". The good news doesn't end
there; the upturn in orders will require additional capacity and
this will include employing more skilled staff in the short and
medium term.
Deritend currently occupies workshop and office space just
outside of Wolverhampton City Centre. The expected increase in head
count could potentially mean that Deritend will need to look to
larger premises within Wolverhampton. Dave Hawley, Regional Manager
stated "while we are keen to move to more suitable premises it is
imperative that Deritend would be relocated nearby in Wolverhampton
so as to retain the skilled workforce".
"Skilled engineers with experience in our industry are difficult
to find and we invest a great deal into training our employees. For
this reason we are looking to remain in Wolverhampton". He
added.
Pat McFadden MP said "It is good news that the Deritend Group is
experiencing an upturn in orders. It is a local example of the
strong showing for manufacturing that has been coming up in the
national figures in recent months. Although it may be on a
smaller scale than in past decades, manufacturing is still very
important to the local economy. I hope the local council and local
educational institutions do everything they can to support and
nurture companies like Deritend."
