All the glitz of Hollywood came to Corner House in Mansfield
recently with the arrival of two limousines to whisk excited
residents off to a very special 25th anniversary celebration.
Corner House was Mansfield's first care home for adults with
learning disabilities, and around 100 staff, friends, family and
local supporters turned out to celebrate the milestone event held
at the town's Intake Leisure Centre.
The scheme is run by housing and regeneration group,
LHA-ASRA.
Corner House was also awarded a special £1,000 'party
fund' from Natwest bank's community award scheme to help the
celebrations along.
Home to 12 residents, Corner House holds an 'Excellent' rating
from the Care Quality Commission (CQC) for its facilities and the
work of dedicated staff.
The Mansfield Building Society is also a keen supporter,
regularly providing residents with donations and gifts, including
holidays and most recently a dishwasher.
In 2010, the scheme won the Mansfield Chad Enterprise Staff Team
of the Year award and holds an Environmental Health five star
rating given by Mansfield District Council.
Corner House has so far received two National Lottery grants -
one to provide weekly horse riding lessons and the second for a
'Wildlife Photo Group', which regularly visits local beauty
spots.
Scheme manager, Jo Hardwick, said: "Local support for Corner
House has been magnificent over the years and makes such a
difference to the lives of our residents."
