A time capsule containing daily newspapers, family photographs
and pictures of endangered species has been buried by one of the
first residents due to move into a flagship extra care development
in Dudley, upon its completion this Summer.
Project partners, Loughborough-based contractor and developer
William Davis Ltd, Midland Heart, Dudley Council and the Homes and
Communities Agency were joined by members of the Broad Meadows
founders' group, families and friends to witness the capsule being
buried under the winter garden at the *£20m
project.
Founders' group member Doreen Parkes was on hand to bury the
capsule and said: "A time capsule is the perfect way of capturing
what it was really like to live in Dudley in 2011. I am delighted
so many people have turned out today as we are nearing the end of a
journey for the scheme and cannot wait until it opens."
Matt Colloby, business development manager, William Davis Ltd
said: "It is great to be part of this historic event. The
positivity surrounding this scheme together with the excitement of
creating and burying the 2011 time capsule is incredible.
"Today's enormous sense of community bodes extremely well for
the future at Broad Meadows and when the new facility is complete,
all involved can be extremely proud of what has been achieved."
Councillor David Simms, cabinet member for housing, libraries
and adult learning at Dudley Council, said: "This is a momentous
occasion for the scheme and will give people a long-lasting
connection to the new development. It's fantastic that we are now
heading towards the final stages of the scheme and it will soon
become a home to many people."
The 132-bed extra care scheme, with a contract value of
£16m, is being developed by Midland Heart in partnership with
William Davis Ltd, Dudley Council, the Homes and Communities Agency
(with an investment of £6.4m) and when complete will provide
a mix of one and two bedroom apartments for sale, shared ownership
or rent for the area's over 55s.
