De Montfort University (DMU) in Leicester is offering a
£1,000 discount to the first 50 companies to register and
recruit a student or graduate.
DMU will pay £1,000 towards the £1,500 cost of
recruiting an intern. Internships can be for up to eight weeks and
must start between now and the middle of June 2011.
The DMU Summer Internship Scheme enables interns to benefit from
gaining paid work experience relevant to their degree or area of
interest and organisations also gain access to the knowledge and
skills of talented interns.
Lisa Naik, graduate internships project co-ordinator at De
Montfort University, said: "With so many companies having to make
cut backs and graduates struggling to find experience in the
current economic climate, internship schemes offer an ideal
solution.
"Students and graduates can get practical experience in a
salaried role and employers can have the chance to see for
themselves the benefits of employing a graduate on a permanent
basis in the future."
DMU has a wide pool of enthusiastic students and graduates with
business, design, engineering, creative industries, IT, legal and
marketing skills. Their knowledge and expertise is being put to
good use to support the region's businesses during the current
challenging economic times.
The DMU Summer Internship scheme is delivered by DMU's Student
Services team, and supported by the Higher Education Innovation
Fund (HEIF) 4.
The new £50k funding allocation follows DMU's successful
internship projects from 2008 and 2010, which involved the
administration and management of 370 internships in government
priority sectors across the East Midlands region.
