A Telford woman will be celebrating the first anniversary of the
start of her running career - by tackling this year's London
Marathon.
Kirsty Briggs works in the parts department at Furrows of
Telford, and she'll be running the marathon in April to raise funds
for the National Deaf Children's Society.
"The day of the race will actually be 12 months to the day since
I started running, so it's an incredible way to celebrate the
anniversary," said Kirsty.
"It's my first marathon, so it's a huge challenge, but I'm
really looking forward to it, and I'm aiming for a time of between
four and four-and-a-half hours."
Kirsty is a member of Telford Harriers, and she will be running
the marathon with Helen Yates - a member of Wrekin Road
Runners.
The duo have been training with Julie Tatton, who is a parts
delivery driver for Furrows, although she won't be taking part on
the day.
"We're already regularly running 20 miles which we can do in
three hours, so we're very hopeful that we'll be able to achieve
our target time," said Kirsty.
"We've had so much support since we decided to take part in the
marathon, and we're extremely grateful for the generous pledges
we've already received."
Furrows group sales manager, Dave Farthing, said: "Kirsty, Helen
and Julie have been training hard for many months, and we're very
proud of their commitment and dedication.
"We'd like to wish Kirsty and Helen well for the marathon, and
if the effort they have already put in is anything to go by, they
should do extremely well on the day."
