Birmingham-based medical start-up company Pieta Informatics Ltd
has secured its first full contract, thanks to the support of
Birmingham Science Park Aston.
The company, which became a part of the Park's Entrepreneurs for
the Future (e4f) business incubator programme in August 2010 - just
four months after launching is producing software designed to help
reduce morbidity and mortality rates, length of stay amongst
hospital patients, and general hospital operating costs.
The Pieta team has also benefitted from a team of MBA students
from Aston University Business School, which will help them to
develop their business plan and sales and marketing strategy.
Joseph Wilson, Technical Director, Pieta, said: "Our programmes
rely on a degree of artificial intelligence to assist in
establishing the most suitable treatment pathways for a patient, as
well as organising staff and equipment to assist with diagnoses and
remove wasteful inefficiencies.
"The assistance that we have received from Birmingham Science
Park Aston in providing us with the office space and support that
we needed to get off the ground has been simply phenomenal. Our
overall aim is to extend our expertise beyond the medical field,
eventually developing products to service other sectors. The
support offered by Aston business School will mean we can
effectively integrate a business plan that will fully support our
product and service goals for the future."
Simon Jenner, head of incubation at Birmingham Science Park
Aston, said: "We believe in the development of Birmingham as a
centre for technological innovation and the support that we can
provide to start-up technology enterprises such as Pieta can make a
really positive contribution to their success.
"We provide bespoke support to all of the companies that become
a part of our e4f business incubation programme, aligning them
where possible with like-minded organisations and businesses. With
Pieta, for instance, we were able to help them establish a
relationship with Aston Business School, which has proven to be
hugely beneficial."
BSPA launched its dedicated e4f programme to help the next
generation of entrepreneurs deliver commercial success. The
programme offers 6-months free office space and infrastructure, and
builds a support network of entrepreneurs, mentors and business
experts around the start-up to ensure the new business has the best
possible chance of success.
