The head of one of Coventry's leading law firms says the city
can expect blue skies ahead.
Paul Saunders, chief executive of Newsome Vaughan, told a
fundraising evening at the city's Herbert Art Gallery & Museum
that it was time for the phoenix to rise again from the ashes of
recession.
"Our sky blue city is becoming vibrant once again as it bounces
back from its current economic uncertainty," he said. "Coventry has
demonstrated its ability to recover from far worse setbacks in the
past and is poised to do so again.
"The advanced engineering skills and expertise which have served
this city so well over the years will find new outlets for their
talents and we are confident it will reinvent itself yet
again."
The event raised £1,000 for the work of the Herbert and
for the Heart of England Community Foundation, which Barclays Bank
is doubling under its matched funding community scheme. It
coincided with the 500th day before the 2012 Olympics.
Appropriately the guest of honour was the city's former world 5000m
record holder and Olympian Dave Moorcroft.
Guests at the event also heard from Richard Fray of sponsors
Barclays, Kate Mulkern of the Heart of England Foundation and Ludo
Keston of the Herbert.
The musical entertainment came from two Coventry-based
organisations, Variations on a Theme and the all-women Belles of
Three Spires harmony group, which received funding from the
Foundation when it first set up.
