Members of a social club in Walsall were delighted with the
overwhelming success of their recent fundraiser in support of the
national 'Help for Heroes' campaign.
Calderfields Golf and Country Club, on Aldridge Road, initially
became involved with the charity after a relative of one of its
members lost a leg during a recent tour of duty, bringing the harsh
realities of life on the frontline closer to home.
The club managed to raise an incredible £2836 in a single
afternoon, through a charity auction, raffle and prize draw. Items
up for grabs included a signed Aston Villa F.C. shirt and football,
a signed Coventry F.C shirt, a mountain bike and a box of 25
Montecristo cigars.
National flooring retailer, Floors-2-Go, with its head office in
Birmingham, also donated a £200 voucher to the prize draw,
which was won by Mrs Rogers, from Walsall Wood.
Speaking on behalf of Floors-2-Go, Karen Hodges said:
"When we heard that Calderfields was hosting a fundraiser for
Help for Heroes, we were only too happy to come on-board and donate
a prize for the raffle.
"The Floors-2-Go voucher winner was delighted with her prize, so
it's good to know that we were able to contribute in a small way,
but hats-off to Calderfields for raising such an impressive amount
in one afternoon."
Directors from Calderfields were delighted to hand over a cheque
for the full amount raised to a coordinator from Help for Heroes at
a ceremony held at the club.
