National contractor Shepherd Construction has appointed Gary Owen as Business Development Manager with responsibility for implementing the company's work winning strategy across the East Midlands region.

Gary, who was previously Business Development Manager for Laing O' Rourke in the Midlands, has more than 25 years' experience in the construction sector.

He was responsible for bringing forward a number of major projects in the Midlands area including the £30 million National Ice Centre for Nottingham City Council and the £20 million National College of School Leadership for the University of Nottingham.

Colin Sargeant, managing director for Shepherd Construction's East Division commented: "Gary's appointment will strengthen our working winning team at a time when we are looking to capitalise upon our previous successes across the East Midlands. We are currently on-site with a number of projects in the region including building a new design centre for Loughborough University and recently we handed over the £31 million flagship regeneration scheme, Derby Riverlights."
