Local residents, project partners and councillors celebrated
with tea and cakes to mark the commencement of the first phase of a
multi-million pound regeneration project which is set to breathe
new life into the Glebe Road and Mount Crescent area of
Stratford-upon-Avon.
The £4.6m partnership project between Orbit Heart of
England, Orbit Homes, Loughborough-based contractor and developer
William Davis Ltd and the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) will
see 57 new two, three and four bedroom homes replace unsuitable
precast homes in the area.
Being built to Code for Sustainable Homes Level 4, the new homes
will incorporate the latest sustainable design features including
photovoltaic roof panels to provide renewable energy, water saving
devices, gas condensing combination boilers, low energy light
fittings throughout and high levels of insulation to reduce carbon
emissions, creating more energy efficient homes.
Matt Colloby, group business development manager, William Davis
said: "Today's celebrations mark the beginning of a new era for the
residents of Glebe Road and Mount Crescent and is the first project
that William Davis has undertaken through Orbit's Contract
Framework Agreement.
"It gives me great pleasure to witness first-hand what this new
development means to everyone involved and I look forward to seeing
its completion."
Stewart Fergusson, managing director of Orbit Heart of England,
said: "This is exactly the kind of high-quality and affordable
family housing that this area needs to create strong communities
for the future.
"This is a very exciting development which demonstrates
excellent collaboration between many organisations to ensure the
delivery of local housing for local people in partnership with the
community."
The initial phase of the five phase scheme is due for completion
in September 2011, with the entire project scheduled for hand over
in December 2012. The new homes have been designed to achieve
'Secured by Design' standards which focus on crime prevention and
will be built to meet 'Lifetime Homes' criteria, helping to support
the changing needs of residents.
