Race night success

Staff from three Shropshire firms were first past the post when it came to raising over £400 for charity.

The team from Dyke Yaxley Chartered Accountants, in Shrewsbury, organised a race night held at The Peacock Inn, in the town, and the money raised will be given to The Alzheimer's Society.

They invited colleagues from Henshalls Insurance Brokers and Kingsland Wealth Management to join them for the event.

Jackie Young, from Dyke Yaxley, said: "We were particularly grateful to The Peacock Inn, as our original venue had double booked us and we only found out two days before.

"They made sure we had an excellent evening, and looked after us very well - they even gave us free sausage and chips!"

Before the race night, staff sold jockeys and owners to their colleagues, and all eight races were sponsored by one of the three firms taking part.

"By doing this, we covered our costs, and everything else we raised on the night which was not paid out in winnings went to our chosen charity - The Alzheimer's Society.

"We're organising all kinds of events this year to support this worthy cause and it was great to see so many staff and friends enjoying themselves and raising vital funds at the same time."

All the winning jockeys and owners received a bottle of wine and free entry to the final race of the night - the Race of Champions - where the winning owner was Helen Ridge and the winning jockey, Helen Bruce.

They both received cash prizes donated by Dyke Yaxley and Henshalls.
