Amateur and professional photographers alike are being
challenged to fire up their creative spark by entering the Peak
Photography Competition 2011 for the chance to win a sizzling cash
prize of £300.
Buxton Festival, one of the UK's leading annual arts events, and
Visit Peak District & Derbyshire, the area's official tourist
board, have teamed up for the second year to launch the contest,
which has the illuminating theme 'Fire and Light'.
Subjects as wide-ranging as capturing fire as a source of
celebration to the stunning light effects in a beautiful sunset,
shot in colour or in black and white at any location, are welcome
from photographers of all ages.
Selected images, including those by the three main prize
winners, will be printed by professional photography laboratory
Peak Imaging and will be displayed at a public exhibition at the
Devonshire Dome during Buxton Festival in July.
"We're delighted to give gifted photographers the chance to
showcase their work at the Festival," said Claire Rhodes,
Development Manager for Buxton Festival.
"Each year, we involve more than 2,000 people in creative arts
activity through our community programme, and there is always
national and international interest in the photography competition.
It's wonderful to add an element of the visual arts to our opera,
music and literature festival."
Added David James, Chief Executive of Visit Peak District &
Derbyshire: "We are pleased to offer our support to Buxton Festival
in running this competition, which we hope will trigger plenty of
creative ideas.
"It's an ideal opportunity for people to showcase their talents
to visitors who come to the area during one of our major annual
arts festivals, as well as offering the chance to win some great
prizes."
Second prize will be a £135 voucher towards the cost of a
course at Simon Watkinson Photo Training, while third prize will be
a £75 voucher for a Going Digital Photography workshop, both
based in Derbyshire.
Entries are invited from photographers of all ages, at a cost of
£3 per image, up to a maximum of three photographs per
entrant. Anyone under 19 years of age by the closing date, 1 June
2011, can enter free of charge.
