A Wolverhampton fencing specialist is targeting the hugely
lucrative global major international sports events market at the
world's most prestigious sporting conference.
Zaun Limited, of Steel Drive, is joining a West Midlands
delegation to Sport Accord, the premier global event that brings
together more than 1,500 representatives from all international
sports organisations, sports governing bodies and host cities.
This year's Sport Accord convention is being held from April 3-8
at the Park Plaza Westminster Bridge Hotel, London, where UK Trade
& Investment (UKTI) and Advantage West Midlands have booked a
stand for West Midlands companies to showcase their expertise in
supplying goods and services to major sports events and venues.
The region's attendance at Sport Accord is aimed at identifying
opportunities beyond the London 2012 Olympics, particularly looking
ahead to the 2014 Winter Olympics in Russia, the 2014 FIFA World
Cup and the 2016 Olympics in Brazil, the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth
Games and the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.
Sport Accord is expected to contribute £3m initially to
the UK economy, with much more expected through new contracts in
the long term.
Established in 1996, Zaun is a specialist manufacturer and
supplier of a vast range of fencing, railings and gates, and also
provides integrated security solutions, which includes security
camera systems and advanced perimeter detection systems.
One of its high profile contract wins was for the London 2012
Olympic and Paralympic Games, to design, manufacture, supply and
install a new high security fence and gates around the 17km
perimeter of the Olympic Park.
Director of Sales and Finance Paul Painter said: "We are very
excited about joining the West Midlands delegation to Sport Accord
and showing representatives from Brazil and Russia in particular
how we have worked with the organisers of London 2012 and how we
can now move forward with other organisations around the world.
"The products that we have developed range from top security
fencing for prisons and sites of critical national infrastructure,
to more specialist steel fencing for use in sporting arena. Our
hockey pitch system for example, has huge advances over traditional
systems because the fencing is very hard-wearing and reduces noise.
It negates the requirement for wooden kick boards which are prone
to damage and are very noisy.
"We are also hoping to join a UKTI delegation to the Middle East
later this year to explore opportunities arising from the 2022 FIFA
World Cup."
Zaun has recently joined UKTI's Passport to Export programme for
new exporters and exhibited in Germany earlier this year with
financial support from UKTI.
Jim Johnston, West Midlands Business Manager for the 2012 Games,
said: "Sport Accord is an unparalleled opportunity to promote the
West Midlands to an international audience, just 15 months before
the start of the London 2012 Games.
"Firms in the West Midlands have already supplied previous major
international sports events. For example, Simworx of Kingswinford
sold two mobile motion simulators to a sponsor of the Turin Winter
Olympics 2006; and Brinton Carpets of Kidderminster supplied
flooring for the new Terminal 3 building at Indira Gandhi
International Airport in Delhi, ahead of the Delhi Commonwealth
Games last year.
"West Midlands businesses have already won contracts worth
nearly half a billion pounds to supply goods and services to the
London 2012 Games, and associated projects. Sport Accord now gives
these companies the opportunity to use the expertise gained from
their London 2012 success, to bid for similar tenders from upcoming
major sports events around the world."
