Shoppers will be treated to fun and frolics this Shrove Tuesday
as Pancake Pete shows off his flipping skills in Nottingham's
Victoria Centre.
Roaming the malls between 11am and 4pm on Tuesday 8th March,
Pete will be looking for willing volunteers to join him and take
part in his fake pancake tossing competition.
Current holder of the Guinness World Record for tossing pancakes
is TV Chef, Aldo Zilli who, on 24 February 2009, completed 117
flips on the set of the BBC1 children's programme, Blue Peter.
Shoppers will be able to judge whether Pancake Pete is a worthy
challenger!
Liz Sewell, Marketing Manager for Victoria Centre, says: "We're
thrilled to have Pancake Pete joining us to mark this special day.
We're hoping our shoppers will enter into the spirit and have a go
themselves and, who knows, we may just find the next Guinness World
Record holder!"
Shrove Tuesday marks the beginning of Lent, the 40 day period
leading up to the celebration of Easter. Traditionally, pancakes
were made to use up rich foods such as butter, eggs and sugar in
anticipation of the ritual fasting of such rich foods during
Lent.
Pancake Pete says: "I'll be on the lookout for fun loving
shoppers to go head to head in my 'just for fun' fake pancake
flipping competition. It looks easy but, when it comes to the
secret of flipping pancakes, it's all in the wrist
action!"
Victoria Centre has a feast of seasonal events for shoppers to
enjoy over the coming months.
On Good Friday (22 Apr) and Easter Monday (25 Apr) the Easter
bunny will be roaming the malls from 11am to 4pm to hand out foiled
mini chocolate eggs.
St. George's Day (23rd Apr) will see St George himself riding
his motorised dragon around the malls between 11am and 4pm giving
away flags and balloon swords.
The Royal Wedding will also be commemorated when, on Friday 29
April, the Centre's very own Royal footman will be roaming the
malls between 1pm and 4.30pm asking shoppers to leave a special
message in a guest book for the happy couple.
Liz added: "We're all very excited about the Royal Wedding and,
for those of us not lucky enough to have made it onto the invite
list, this is just our way of marking the occasion and making it
special for our shoppers. We're even festooning our information
desk with red, white and blue bunting!"
