The first meeting of a national property association in
Warwickshire has highlighted the growing need for wider
understanding of green initiatives.
Midland law firm Wright Hassall hosted the Association of Women
in Property's first meeting in the county as members met to discuss
sustainable project development.
The event featured a presentation from Juliet Carter, a designer
at Building Arts, who project managed the installation of solar
panels at Milverton Primary School - the first school in
Warwickshire to do so.
Mark Fairbairn, a governor at Milverton Primary School, was also
in attendance to explain the practicalities of gaining funding,
scheduling the work and the actual benefits.
While the event was a huge success, prompting calls to establish
a regional branch of the Association of Women in Property, the
number of questions regarding the green agenda was the standout
theme.
As a result Wright Hassall is finalising plans to stage a 'green
forum' where environmental issues within the property industry can
be discussed.
And Claire-Elaine Arthurs of the firm's property dispute
resolution team, and member of the Association of Women in
Property, believes this type of constructive outcome proves that
these meetings are a worthwhile exercise.
She said: "This was the first time the National Association of
Women in Property hosted an event of this type of in Warwickshire
and it was a huge success. It is important that the wealth of
experienced property professionals we have in Warwickshire is
recognised at a national level.
"The event was very informative and prompted in-depth
discussions about issues that would effect the property industry
going forwards.
"However, the one matter that kept cropping up was the green
agenda and how to cope with new legislation that is currently being
introduced by the coalition government.
"Fortunately at Wright Hassall we are in a good position to give
people the information they require on these issues so we have come
up with the idea of staging a green forum.
"I think the passion with which the practicalities of putting
more environmentally friendly measures in place was discussed and
debated at the event really drove home the point that this change
is coming and it is something that everybody within the industry
needs to know about."
