The producers of a comic book film are returning to Birmingham
to give a talk about their work.
Phil Bland, Matt Hubbard and Adam Hamdy who filmed part of Pulp
at Millennium Point, home to Birmingham City University's city
centre campus, will be talking at the monthly Creative Networks
event, which is organised by the University's School of Digital
Media Technology.
Set in the world of comic book publishing, the film centres on a
character called Tony Leary, owner of the fictional Junk Comics,
who is drafted by the police to help catch a gang of criminals.
Last year part of the comedy was filmed at Millennium Point and
some of the University's BSc Television Technology & Production
and BSc Film Production & Technology students helped to crew
the production.
The three film makers will be attending the Creative Networks
event on Thursday 31 March to speak about their unique approach to
moviemaking and the bigger picture of enhanced 'storytelling'
across multiple forms of media.
The trio have recently agreed a deal with AOL to launch an
online comedy channel built on the Pulp comedy brand. Senior
Lecturer and organiser of the Creative Networks events, Dave
Taylor, said: "This is an example of the kind of opportunities that
are being opened up by the convergence of digital and traditional
media.
"Called 'Transmedia' it is the technique of telling stories
across multiple platforms and formats, so that consumers can become
more immersed in a story's world."
The talk entitled Transmedia - What's the Story? marks the 66th
Creative Networks event. Creative Networks is about bringing all
parties involved in sound and screen-based media in the West
Midlands together. This includes the diverse and often disparate
creative companies, freelancers and associated businesses in the
region. It aims to promote successful business development and
collaboration, and long term sustainability through knowledge and
use of innovative technologies and creative practices.
