Cannock-based Briggs Equipment is celebrating a new £5
million contract to supply nearly 400 trucks and other materials
handling equipment to one of the country's largest builders'
merchants and home improvement retailers.
The new flexible-hire contract is the latest development in a
long-standing relationship between Briggs and Travis Perkins and
extends across its main UK distribution centres.
Richard Close, CEO of Briggs Equipment, commented: "This is a
national contract and our service centre here in Cannock acts as
the main hub for all of Travis Perkins' sites across the country.
We are delighted to renew this agreement, the scale of which helps
to secure local jobs for local people at a time when many jobs are
being lost."
The contract sees Briggs supply a wide range of Yale forklift
trucks and other materials handling equipment. The deal also
includes a partnership with a Staffordshire-based industrial
battery manufacturer to supply a battery system solution offering
up to 30 per cent increased efficiency.
Nick Wilson, Travis Perkins' General Manager - Brackmills
Stores, comments: "With over 2,600 pallets that need to be picked
and moved daily, our operation needs to run as efficiently as
possible to meet demand."
Further savings and environmental improvements have been made
with the conversion of 58 trucks from LPG to electric power and the
fitting of Briggs' award winning Speedshield system that monitors
operator utilisation and safety.
